German philanthropist provides kindergarten for Alavanyo Ahebenease

The people of Alavanyo Ahebenease in the Hohoe municipality now have a kindergarten for their basic education school through the benevolence of a German philanthropist, Ms Cornelia von Wuelfing.

The new facility which was funded at a cost of GHȻ150,000 comprises two unit classrooms, an office, a store, two seater toilet facility and a urinal.

It will be recalled that at the end of August this year the sod was cut for the construction of the kindergarten with the promise that it will be executed in three months and truly the contractor was able to execute the project on time despite all challenges.
Commemorative project

It was undertaken to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the enstoolment of Ms Wuelfing as the paramount queen of SASADU made up of Sovie, Alavanyo, Saviefe and Akrofu areas, under the stool name Mamaga Ngoyifiaga Akosua I.

The inauguration ceremony was a an excitement for the people and the philanthropist for the project to have been delivered by the contractor according to schedule within a time frame of three months as promised and the construction company HAB-Amenyo Construction Company earned recognition for that.

Ms Wuelfing promised to award more projects to the contractor adding that the kindergarten would be named after her daughter, Mrs Sarah Fayed.

Inspiration to parents

The paramount chief of Alavanyo traditional area, Togbega Tsedze Atakora VII said the new school should inspire parents to be more responsible to the educational needs of their children and that it was an appropriate gift to the chief of the town, Togbe Kunde V who is a teacher.
Compulsory basic education for children

In an address, the Kpando Municipal Director of Ghana Education Service (GES) with oversight responsibility for Hohoe Municipality, Mr John Kodzo Teku said all children at four years should be compulsorily enrolled at the kindergarten as part of the policy on compulsory basic education adding that parents who failed to send their children to school could be taken to task.

He said the future belonged to an educated society because education was a weapon for exercising effective leadership roles.

Mr Teku appealed to eminent citizens of the community to help furnish the kindergarten with reading and learning materials to make it attractive to children to remain in school.

Lesson for Ghanaian contractors

The chief of the town, Togbe Kunde V said the ability of the contractor in executing the job on time was a big lesson to Ghanaians and must be emulated adding that Ghana will be a better place to live if all contractors should approach their work with such diligence.
