Fuseni elected new Ghana Boxing Federation president in landslide victory

Alhaji Dauda Fuseni has been elected President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), defeating incumbent Bernard Quartey by a wide margin in elections held on Saturday.

The former First Vice President secured 85 votes against Mr Quartey’s 25 in a peaceful but keenly contested poll at the Media Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, December 27.

Nii Gonti Adjor I, also known as Nii Adama Addy, was elected unopposed as First Vice President, while Solomon Otoo Lartey retained his position as Second Vice President after defeating Naa Okailey. Mustapha Nettey also maintained his position as Treasurer with a comfortable margin.

Ms Sarah Lotus Asare and Mr George Lamptey were elected as new members of the federation’s executive board.

The newly elected officers were immediately sworn in by the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Mr Richard Akpokavie, who urged the leadership to unite the amateur boxing fraternity and focus on developing talented boxers for the upcoming Youth Olympic Games in Senegal and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Mr Akpokavie was accompanied by the GOC Secretary General, Mr Mohammed Muniru, and board members Nana Mankatah, Bawa Fuseini and Kamal Sulley, who congratulated the new leadership.

In his acceptance remarks, Alhaji Fuseni pledged accountability, transparency and fairness in decision making. He said his administration would learn from past experiences to avoid previous mistakes and work closely with all stakeholders to advance boxing in Ghana.

Following the announcement of the results, jubilant supporters hoisted Mr Fuseni shoulder high and paraded him through the streets of Ga Mashie, a historic boxing enclave, before converging at The Gym for a celebration marked by champagne, fireworks and refreshments.

The election was conducted under the supervision of the Ghana Olympic Committee and the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
