‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ does not mean Ghana will not need help - Osafo-Maafo

The Senior Minister, Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo has explained that the government’s “Ghana Beyond Aid Agenda” does not mean that Ghana will not need the help of others but rely only on its resources.

“When we talk about Ghana Beyond Aid, we are not talking about Ghana not needing aid but Ghana using its resources judiciously,” he said.

According to him, considering the natural resources that Ghana has, the country should have been in the position to offer assistance to other African countries in need but that cannot be said of it.

Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo was speaking at the sixth District Conference of Rotary International District 9102 in Accra on Friday, April 26, 2019, at the Ghana International Conference Centre.

The conference, brought together Rotarians, Interacts, Rotaracts and Rotary Community Corps from Benin, Ghana, Togo and Niger.

Rotary

Rotary brings together a global network of volunteers who dedicate their time and talent to tackle the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges.

Mr Osaf-Maafo said due to lack of proper and judicious use of the country’s resources, the country still wallow in poverty.

Touching on the work of Rotary, he said, government would continue to be a key partner to Rotary, urging Rotarians to partner government to reignite the spirit of volunteerism.

“Rotarians, be proud of your achievements because you are making real impact in the lives of many people,” Mr Osafo-Maafo said.

He has therefore charged the participants at the conference to come out with new and innovative ideas that will guide Rotary for more profound results.

The Rotary International President’s Special Representative, Geeta Manek, commended Rotarians in the district for their work.

“Thanks to you, for your life changing initiatives at the Accra Rehabilitation Centre, the St Joseph of Bogou Maternity Hospital in Togo, Medical Centre of Gobou in Quidah, Benin, the Labadi Cluster of Schools, the maternal child health hospital in Mallam Atta Market, the amazing water and sanitation projects in Greater Accra, Eastern, Western, Northern, Volta and Central regions,” he noted.
