Absa Bank supports Kantamanto traders with GH¢150,000
Absa Bank has donated GH¢150,000 to support traders at Kantamanto Market in Accra who were affected by the devastating fire on January 2, this year.
The donation comprised GH¢100,000 in cash and GH¢50,000 worth of roofing sheets to aid the rebuilding efforts of the traders.
A team from Absa Bank presented the donation to the leaders of trading associations at the market.
The Executive Director, Retail and Business Banking of Absa Bank Ghana, Kobla Nyaletey, who led the team to make the donation, expressed sympathy to the traders for the losses and emphasised Absa Bank's proactive support.
Initiatives
He outlined three key initiatives for the traders, indicating that aside from the GH¢150,000, the bank would also offer loans to the traders at a favourable 10 per cent interest rate per annum, and establish an Absa presence within the Kantamanto Market to facilitate seamless transactions.
The Director of SME, Agency Banking and Partnerships at Absa Bank, Audrey Abakah, also highlighted the bank’s commitment to supporting traders through innovative financial solutions.
“As a bank that cares and seeks to empower Africa’s tomorrow, we could not sit idly by but felt compelled to meet with the executive of the Second-Hand Clothing Association to make a donation and present specially designed packages for wholesalers and traders.”
The President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association, Joseph Obeng, expressed gratitude for the bank’s swift intervention, saying, 'We thank Absa for listening to our cry and coming to help us. Absa has once again proven to be a friend of traders.
The support Absa has given us today shows the integrity of the bank.”
He said the money would be used to rebuild Kantamanto and nothing else.
