Akufo Addo calls for diplomatic approach to Nigerian border closure
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has called for a diplomatic approach to the Nigerian border closure.
About two months ago, the Nigerian government announced the closure of the country’s land borders to all goods.
According to the country’s Comptroller-General of the Customs Service, Hameed Ali, this was done to stem the influx of smuggled goods, especially rice and tomatoes, into the country.

In an interview with Accra based radio station, Starr FM on Thursday, the Deputy Trade Minister, Mr Carlos Ahenkorah said talk is underway with the Nigerian government over the border closure.
Mr Ahenkora who is currently in Abuja, Nigeria over the closure said the action could lead to a big trade impasse.
Mr Ahenkora said president Akufo-AQddo decries the issue and calls for diplomatic means to resolve the issue.
“If Nigeria should cut as off this way ….but we are not going to fight them, we are not going to retaliate. Yes president decries the situation and does not actually support the fact that Nigeria will go against the protocols”
“We ask the almighty to let our senior brothers see the way that at least everyone must respect the ECOWAS protocol. By so saying we accept that they should allow a trade to go on between us so that our economies would not suffer”
