C/Regional House of Chiefs dismisses petition against Gomoa Nyanyano Odikro

The Judicial Committee of the Central Regional House of Chiefs has dismissed a petition challenging the installation of Nana Kwasi Annan  Wiabo VII from the Abradze Family as the Odikro of Gomoa Nyanyano.

In a decision dated October 31, 2025, a three-member panel of the Judicial Committee, which had Okoamankra Kwame Akwonu X as the chairman, dismissed the petition for failing to properly invoke the jurisdiction of the Regional Judicial Committee.

The petition, filed by Ebusuapanyin Nana Kwesi Mensah from the Chief Palace of Nyanyano, contended that the Head of Boadze Abradze Family House, Ebusuapanyin Panyin Kwame Kona and one other member of the family lacked the capacity to install Mr Annan as the Odikro of Gomoa Nyanyano.

Respondent

The petition, which had Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II, Paramount Chief of the Gomoa Assin Traditional Area, as the first respondent, further contended that the Paramount Chief erred when he allowed Mr Annan to swear an oath of allegiance to the Gomoa Fetteh Stool.

The petitioners, therefore, wanted a perpetual injunction preventing Mr Kwesi Annan from holding himself out as the Chief of Gomoa Nyanyano.

However, counsel for the respondents, led by John Agbotey Esquire, filed a motion urging the Judicial Committee to dismiss the petition because the issues in dispute were not issues within the purview of the Regional House of Chiefs but the Traditional Council.

They, therefore, argued that the Regional House of Chiefs had no jurisdiction to entertain the matter by the mere fact that the petition had named a Paramount Chief as a respondent.
The Judicial Committee of the Central Regional House of Chiefs agreed with the arguments in support of the motion to dismiss the petition and dismissed the same.
