The structure, which is situated along the Kasoa-Obom road, is a few metres away from the new market.

When the other ancillary structures are fully completed, the enclave is expected to accommodate the police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), the Formed Police Unit (FPU) regional police operations, the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) as well as a proposed police clinic.

The office building which is located at Adam Nana was inaugurated last Monday by the Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as part of his tour of the Awutu Senya East Constituency,

Fighting crime

Inaugurating the building, Dr Bawumia stated that the new police regions had been created in the fast-developing areas as part of efforts to effectively and efficiently deal with crime.

One of those regions that was selected, the Vice-President stated, was Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East District in the Central Region, which had become one of the most significant communities.

He thus expressed his joy that the new command had been firmly established, and that it had taken less than two years to complete its permanent office.

The Vice-President expressed confidence that the building would contribute to the control and the enforcement of law in Awutu Senya East.

Describing the Member of Parliament (MP) for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson, as an excellent MP for the area, Dr Bawumia was full of praise for her for the role she played in ensuring that the building was completed on schedule.

He was also grateful to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, and other members of the police council for their support.

Tools

Dr Bawumia, who is also the flag bearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), expressed the hope that the police would be given the necessary resources to do their work.

He stressed his resolve to import 50,000 close circuit television (CCTV) cameras to be installed in every region and district to improve the surveillance duties of the police on every street and corner to deal with crime.

He, therefore, appealed for support to be able to do that.

“From our point of view as a government, we have invested more in the Police Service than any other government in the Fourth Republic. We have bought more vehicles, more uniforms and even three helicopters for the police for the first time in Ghana’s police history.

Mrs Koomson, for her part, thanked the traditional leaders who released the land to ensure the project became a reality.

Commander

The Central East Police Commander, DCOP Owusu Bempah, said the creation of the region had relieved the community of the burden of travelling to Cape Coast anytime one needed to transact business with the regional police command.

He, however, expressed concern about the poor road network in the area, a situation which led to regular break down of police vehicles.

DCOP Bempah said the Central East Region currently had only one functioning patrol vehicle because the other vehicles were in a state of disrepair, a situation that had rendered patrols ineffective.

He said the Command was grateful to past police administrations and the current for the support extended to the region since its inception.
