Couple seeks legal protection over land dispute
A couple has prayed the courts to restrain some individuals from impeding their occupancy of a land they claim to own and to restrain assigns from physically harming them as the land-related dispute assumes a brutal phase.
Derick Adu Bilson and Jacqueline Bilson have filed a writ at the Adentan High Court, seeking protection over the disputed space and access to their property.
The plaintiffs, in an application for interlocutory injunction filed on April 24, 2026, prayed the court to restrain one Jeffery Jeleel and another person described in the suit as “The Trespasser” from entering, interfering with, transferring, dealing with or developing the land pending the final determination of the case.
According to the plaintiffs, the land at Pantang in Accra had been in their possession since 2015 until recent claims by the defendants over the property.
While they go through the court processes for resolution, the plaintiffs have reported incidents of abuse by supposed assigns of the defendants, claiming molestation from men armed with offensive weapons.
In documents sighted by the Daily Graphic, they have petitioned the Greater Accra Regional Police Crime Office, the Criminal Investigations Department of the Police Service and the Inspector-General of Police for protection from constant harassment from the defendants.
Police petitions
Documents available to the Daily Graphic further showed that separate petitions on the matter had been forwarded to the Inspector-General of Police at the Police Headquarters in Accra, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the CID Headquarters and the ACP in charge of the Crime Office at the Regional Police Headquarters in Accra.
The petitions reportedly sought police intervention over alleged acts of trespass and attempts to forcibly take possession of the land.
However, despite the complaints lodged with the police, the dispute is said to persist, compelling the plaintiffs to seek judicial intervention.
Court action
In their substantive writ filed at the Adentan High Court on April 24, 2026, the plaintiffs are seeking a declaration of title to the disputed land, recovery of possession of the land, general damages for trespass and punitive damages against the defendants.
They are also asking for an order for perpetual injunction restraining the defendants and their agents, assignees, workmen, grantees and privies, costs including solicitors’ fees and any further orders from the court.
According to the plaintiffs, the dispute started after a man allegedly began laying claim to portions of the land, although his property reportedly did not share a boundary with theirs.
The situation, the plaintiffs claimed, created tension in the area, as the said persons allegedly made repeated attempts to enter and take possession of the land.
