The Headmistress of Ebenezer Senior High School (SHS), Anastasia Afua Konadu, has called for urgent interventions to address the infrastructural and logistical deficits confronting the institution.
She made the call during the school’s 84th anniversary and 17th speech and prize-giving day on the school's premises last Saturday.
Ms Konadu indicated that the school had numerous stalled projects, including a six-unit classroom block, which slowed academic progress at the school.
She also highlighted the current lack of a dedicated science and ICT block.
Ms Konadu lamented that a shortage of furniture, poor landscaping, and the lack of additional vehicles were also hampering teaching and learning.
The headmistress further revealed that the absence of boarding facilities had contributed to absenteeism and lateness, particularly among students from distant areas.
She also expressed concern over inadequate security on the 45-acre campus. “There is constant thievery… they steal anything they set their eyes on,” she said, adding that only three security personnel were responsible for protecting the entire premises.
She appealed to stakeholders to support the school with desks, chairs, and other essential resources.
Achievements
Despite these challenges, Ms Konadu celebrated the school’s achievements in academics, sports, drama, and debates.

She noted that the institution had placed fifth in the Greater Accra Schools Sports Competition, won the inaugural Greater Accra Regional Drama Competition, and secured second place in the Inter-Schools Debate Competition organised by Echo Wilds.
She commended alumni and partners such as Cummins Ghana and 360Africa for supporting facility upgrades, promoting clean energy awareness, and enriching the school library.
“Our institution has grown not just in numbers, but in strength, excellence, and reputation,” she affirmed.
Initiative, Support
For his part, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma West, Rev. Dr Kweku Addo, pledged to work towards upgrading the school to Category A status.
He called on the Ministry of Education, GETFund, corporate bodies, and alumni to join forces in mobilising resources.
Rev. Dr Addo also proposed establishing a model basic school on the campus to serve as both a feeder institution and a testing ground for innovative teaching practices.
“Let us together, as parents, alumni, government, teachers, and students, honour the past by building a future of excellence, dignity, and purpose for this great school," he concluded.
Anniversary
The event drew participants from among the students, parents, alumni, and other stakeholders of the school.
Awards were also presented to several students and staff members in recognition of their outstanding performance and service over the past academic year.
