Eid-ul-Adha celebration: Reaffirm your faith in God - Chief Imam admonishes

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has wished the Muslim faithful well as they mark the Eid-ul-Adha tomorrow.

In their remembrance of the great sacrifice, the Chief Imam also sent a message of peace and love, unity and reconciliation, sacrifice and compromise, as the world currently faced challenges of multiple dimensions.

“As the name suggests, Eid-ul-Adha is a festivity of sacrifice and an opportunity to reaffirm our faith in Allah.

“That is why Allah states in Quran Chapter 22 Verse 37 that - He is not interested in the flesh and blood of the animals sacrificed on the day of the Eid, but in our commitment to piety,” Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu added.

Reflection

The Chief Imam further reminded Muslims that Eid-ul-Adha was not only a period of celebration, but also that of reflection.

He said that the virtues of Eid would be fruitless unless Muslims portrayed  good attitude and also helped in addressing the growing moral decadence in society.

That, the Chief Imam said, called for behavioural change from negativity to positivity in the supreme interest of society

Interfaith harmony

The National Chief Imam further described Eid-ul-Adha celebration as  “moral basis of interfaith harmony, particularly among the Abrahamic fraternity.”
Justifying his assertion, Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu referred to the “Divine Order to Prophet Abraham to sacrifice his son, Ishmael, which he said was the genesis of Eid-ul-Adha”.

That, the Chief Imam said “is the point of convergence of all the Abrahamic religions: Islam, Christianity and Judaism”.

He, therefore, called on members of the Abrahamic family to regard the Eid as another opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to interfaith harmony, a cornerstone of national unity and global stability.

The Chief Imam contended that in the darkness of socio-religious adversity, interfaith harmony served as the light that brightened the path to prosperity.

On the global stage, Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu referred to the myriad of threats confronting humanity, ranging from genocidal impunity to moral bankruptcy.

Global peace

Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu called for an end to atrocities arising from the war in Iran and in other areas of conflict in the world, saying “we cannot surrender our God-given humanity to modern-day barbarity in the name of supremacy”.

He, therefore, appealed to world leaders to review the current global order to reflect the centrality of “right over might, unity over disunity, forgiveness over vindictiveness, reconciliation over aggression and peace over violence.”
