The FirstBank Ghana has donated GH¢200,000 to five Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to boost their initiatives as part of its Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (CR&S) Week celebration.

The donation saw Making Learning Happen, an NGO which supports access to basic educational resources for deprived schools, receiving GH₵50,000.
Lifeline for Childhood Cancer Foundation, which focuses on helping children and families in their fight against childhood cancers and the Heal Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Project (HeKAP), received GH¢50,000 each.

Also, the Ghana National Polio Plus Committee were supported with an amount of GH₵30,000; while the Rotaract District 9104, which focuses on supporting youth-led community development initiatives, received GH¢20,000.

The amounts were presented to the NGOs at the FirstBank Ghana Head Office Annexe in Accra last Wednesday. The celebration was marked on the theme: “Hands of Kindness”.

Significance of CR&S Week

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of FirstBank Ghana, Victor Yaw Asante, said the CR&S remained integral for the long-term strategy and stakeholder agenda.

He said it reaffirmed our social licence to operate and also served as a constant reminder to the bank’s stakeholders that it is a trusted institution dedicated to creating more than just economic value.

“By investing in people and social causes, we demonstrate that our success is inseparable from their well-being, thereby strengthening our relevance and legitimacy in society.

“When our customers, regulators, shareholders and partners witness our commitment to social progress, they gain deeper confidence in our integrity and long-term vision.

This trust directly translates into credibility, customer loyalty and stronger brand equity in a competitive financial landscape,” Mr Asante said.

ESG standard, commitment

The FirstBank MD/CEO added that the bank’s operations with global Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) standards positioned it among forward-thinking institutions that balanced profitability with responsibility.

He affirmed that by promoting environmental stewardship, social impact and ethical governance, the bank ensured that its growth model was future-proof, compliant with evolving international expectations and beneficial to both society and the environment.

Mr Asante added that the FirstBank was committed to CR&S which deepened staff engagement and organisational pride, giving employees a meaningful platform to contribute beyond their daily responsibilities.

“When staff actively participate in community impact initiatives, they connect more strongly with our values, strengthen teamwork and develop a shared sense of purpose,” he stated.

Appreciation

The Chairman of HeKAP, Samuel Adu-Boakye, expressed gratitude on behalf of the recipients and praised FirstBank for the gesture, which was the second support of its kind for them.

He indicated that the project being undertaken by HeKAP was very necessary as it was crucial to saving the lives of millions of patients it received annually from across 12 out of the 16 regions of the country.

Mr Boakye pledged that the donation would be used judiciously to ensure that the projects were completed to address the needs for which they were started.
