Ga Central Assembly hands over 18-unit classroom to Abeka Basic School
The Ga Central Municipal Assembly (GCMA) in the Greater Accra Region has handed over a one-storey 18-unit classroom block with modern facilities to the Abeka Motorway Basic School in the Chantan Circuit of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The new block is to help ease congestion and promote an effective teaching and learning environment in the school.
The handing over of the facility to the Abeka Motorway Basic School, which has a total population of 534 pupils from Kindergarten One to Junior High School Form Three and 23 teachers, will solve the challenge of overcrowded classrooms and improve access to quality education.
At a brief ceremony, the Ga Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Emmanuel Adotey Allotey, who represented the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo, said education is the foundation of every thriving society, which shapes the future, empowers children and lays the groundwork for development.
He said it was for that reason that, as an assembly, it consistently placed education at the heart of the development agenda.
Background
Mr Allotey said the first phase of the project was initiated by a former Municipal Chief Executive, Sheriff Dodoo, under the auspices of the then Ga South Municipal Assembly, with funding from the GETFund.

He explained that when the GCMA was carved out of the Ga South Municipal Assembly, the project was continued by his predecessors, Mohammed Bashiru and Ambrose Tsegah, and he came to complete it to serve the purpose of decongestion in the school.
Mr Allotey disclosed that a three-unit classroom block with modern facilities was also being built for Greda D School in the municipality, which was about 50 per cent complete.
He announced that the assembly was in the advanced stages of acquiring a parcel of land at Agape for the construction of an 18-unit classroom block and ancillary facilities for the Agape community.
“Director of Education, these projects are a clear signal that the GCMA is deeply interested and has invested in building a strong educational foundation for every child in every corner of the municipality.
“The inauguration of this school block is a testament to what the assembly can achieve when leadership is focused and the community is united.
“I urge the teachers, pupils and parents to take ownership of this facility, maintain, cherish, and most importantly, use it to unlock the full potential of our children,” Mr Allotey emphasised.
The Ga Central Municipal Director of Education, Ibrahim Mumuni, on behalf of the municipal education directorate, expressed his appreciation to the government and the GCMA for the block, which would promote a good learning environment in the school.
