He said the recent clean-up exercises being organised in Accra under his leadership as part of the Homowo celebration were good for maintaining a clean environment.

Mr Ghartey gave the commendation last Thursday when he called on the Ga Mantse at his residence. The board chairman said: “We cannot sit unconcerned without offering any support to the Ga people when they had embarked on numerous projects and exercises in the capital, we reside and operate on your land and respect your authority as the chief and we are here also to build closer relationship with you and all other notable and respectable people like you.”

The board chairman later presented to the Ga Mantse packets of bottled mineral water, a number of drinks, including Schnapps, and an undisclosed amount of money.

The Ga Mantse, who received the leadership of the GRA, also commended the GRA for the good work done over the years in generating the needed revenue for the development of the Ga state.

He also appealed to them to ensure that they expanded the tax net in order to generate more revenue for the development of Accra as a modern city and the country as a whole.

He also prayed for the GRA board and the Commissioner-General who was recently entrusted with that responsibility.

King Teiko Tsuru averred that, although a woman, he believed that she would be able to manage to keep the country's purse bloating to buttress the fact that women were better at managing finances.

The Ga Mantse, however, appealed to them to consider a quota in the employment of indigenes from the Ga communities to work at the GRA.

He prayed and wished them well in their future endeavours and thanked them for the items presented to the palace.

The Commissioner-General of GRA, Julie Essiam, in an interview with media practitioners, later said the visit formed part of the organisation’s four strategic plans under stakeholder engagements to collaborate with the leadership of tax communities.

“Our partnership and our collaboration starts with the leadership of communities, which is a significant step we have taken today," she added.

Ms Essiam said the visit would allow the management of the GRA to understand the challenges the communities paying taxes faced to improve on tax education, collection and mobilisation of revenue for development.
