Gunu, Queen Etornam, others visit Ho Cured Lepers Village
The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, last Thursday visited the Cured Lepers Village in Ho and donated various food and other items to the residents for the Christmas celebration.
The items included bags of rice and maize, boxes of cooking oil, sachets and bottles of water, crates of soft drinks, boxes of chocolate, loaves of bread, packets of toilet roll among others.
The regional minister said cured lepers were an integral part of society and deserve the love and kindness of all and sundry at all times, to live in joy, just like other members of the public.
Mr Gunu, who was accompanied by the winner of Ghana’s Most Beautiful 2025 contest, Queen Etornam, municipal and district chief executives in the region, said the gesture was in line with the government's concern for the welfare of cured lepers.
“We visited you when we were in opposition, and so, it is only proper we visit you again when we are in power,” he added.
Earlier, the Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Stephen Adom, said the assembly had taken the village's concerns seriously, including the need to improve the access road from the town to the village, emptying of their septic tank, and the settlement of electricity bills and gave an assurance that those concerns would be addressed very soon.
X’mas celebration
Meanwhile, Queen Etornam donated GH₵3,000 to the cured lepers to contribute to their Christmas celebration.
The caretaker of the village, Nelson Atito, expressed gratitude for the gesture, saying it was heartwarming.
He said there were now 150 people living in the Cured Leper Village, including the families of the cured lepers.
Mr Atito appealed to the regional minister to continue visiting the village to gather first-hand information on the needs of the cured lepers.
