Harris' visit to Ghana re-affirms durable friendship between Ghana and USA - Mahama
Former President John Dramani Mahama says the visit of the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, to Ghana re-affirms the durable friendship between Ghana and USA”.
"Her presence in Ghana, following previous visits by Presidents of the U.S.A. in 1998, 2008, and 2009, re-affirms the durable friendship between Ghana and the U.S.A.; and further demonstrates the US's growing interest in Africa", he said.
Harris is on a three-day official state visit to Ghana ahead of similar visits to Tanzania and Zambia in the course of the week.
The aim of her visit is to strengthen U.S. relationships with the continent in the face of global competition over its future.
She landed at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Sunday, March 26, 2023.
In a Facebook post to welcome Harris to Ghana on Monday, March 27, 2023, Mr. Mahama said the visit, which follows previous ones by US Presidents in the past, further demonstrates US’s growing interest in Africa.
He expressed hope that the visit will enhance collaboration between US and Africa.
"We look forward to the US collaborating with Africa to provide the needed support for economic cooperation, youth development and employment, and enhanced security for global safety."
