IFMA Ghana Chapter launches student chapter at SDD-UBIDS
The Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) in Wa, which offers courses in Estate Management, now has a Student Chapter of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA).
This was after the IFMA- Ghana Chapter launched the Student Chapter at an event last aimed at bridging the gap between academia and industry.
Also aimed at deepening collaboration to shape the future of facility management in the country, the event brought together students, faculty, and industry leaders.
It featured interactive sessions, showcasing the latest trends in facility management and the profession’s role in addressing challenges like urbanisation and environmental sustainability.
Functionality of buildings
The President of IFMA Ghana, Sampson Opare-Agyemang, highlighted the pivotal role of Facility Management in modern society and expressed the IFMA Ghana Chapter’s commitment to support the Student Chapter through mentorship programs, internships, and networking opportunities.
“The establishment of the IFMA Ghana Student Chapter at SDD-UBIDS offers a fantastic opportunity to bring this profession to the forefront of the university experience, providing students with the resources, knowledge, and network to develop their skills in Facility Management,” he said.
He said the launch represented the foundation for a generation of professionals equipped to make a lasting impact on Ghana’s built environment and beyond.
“Today, with the launch of this Student Chapter, we are one step closer to creating a thriving community of future professionals right here in Wa”.
“Facility Management is a profession that plays a crucial role in optimising the performance and functionality of buildings, spaces, and infrastructures,” he said.
Mr Opare-Agyemang emphasied the contribution of the profession to the success of organisations and communities as well as in addressing global challenges such as sustainability and safety of users.
Student chapter
The Patron of the Student Chapter, Professor Elvis Attakora Amaniapong, lauded the initiative for its potential to transform the professional journeys of students.
“This Student Chapter is more than an academic milestone—it’s a gateway to real-world opportunities. Facility management is a dynamic profession that demands innovation, resilience, and a deep commitment to excellence,” he said.
The students shared their excitement about the newly launched Chapter and said it was the exposure they have been waiting for.
