Volta Region to host NAFAC 2026

The Volta Region has been named as the host of the 2026 National Festival of Arts and Culture.

NAFAC 2026, which is held biennially, is slated to take place in November, and it is expected to draw an overwhelming visitors from various parts of the country, Europe, the United States, the Caribbean and other parts of the world.

The Volta Regional Director of the Centre for National Culture (CNC), Lydia Nyarko-Ampomah, who disclosed this to the Daily Graphic in Ho yesterday, said the specific days for the festival would be chosen later.

“We were handed the baton to host the event after the NAFAC 2024, which ended in Techiman in the Bono East Region last December,” she said.

Mrs Nyarko-Ampomah said the choice of the Volta Region was based on its sterling performance at the NAFAC 2024, adding, the region won the awards for the best costumes and best talents, in addition to winning the Miss NAFAC’2024 beauty crown.

“The crown was won by 22-year-old Sabina Emefa Attah,” she told the Daily Graphic.

Activities

Apart from the exhibitions and stage performances, the fair would also include trips to the Adaklu Mountain, Tafi Monkey Sanctuary and  the highest human settlement in Ghana, Amedzofe, and other sights of natural beauty, Mrs Nyarko- Ampomah added.

Budget, facelift

Meanwhile, the regional CNC director said an amount of GH¢2 million would be required to put the regional CNC in good shape for the grand event.

She said there was also a need to improve on the event garden and cultural village and put up a perimeter fence around the centre before the fair.

“The fair will boost the regional economy to astonishing heights and further encourage the growth of the ongoing ‘Visit Volta, Experience Ghana,’ campaign,” she said.

Mrs Nyarko-Ampomah appealed to corporate entities and public-spirited individuals to support the CNC with funds and in various ways to host the festival successfully.

NAFAC 2026 would definitely serve the broader national interest as it would market the region to the whole world, she said.
