The Oil Palm Research Institute (OPRI), an institute of the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has organised an awards ceremony at Akyem Kusi in the Eastern Region during which 28 former employees who retired in 2022 and 2023 were honoured.

The retirees, who served the institute between 21 and 42 years, were presented with large, medium and small sizes of deep freezers depending on the years served.

The ceremony was also used to honour 21 outstanding members of staff who were presented with hampers, certificates and cash awards.

At the ceremony, the Director of the institute, Dr Isaac Danso, commended the award winners for their commitment to the rapid progress of the establishment.

He stressed that the award ceremony was aimed at motivating the workers to give their best.

Dr Danso said the management of OPRI had decided to institutionalise the award scheme to make it an annual affair.

He announced that all staff allowances would be increased in January 2025 while occupants of government bungalows would also be paid allowances for the first time.

Dr Danso noted with pride that in October, this year, the International Coconut Festival Ghana presented an international award to the OPRI for its innovative research in developing   disease-resistant and tolerant coconut varieties.
