
Institution of Engineering honours practitioners
The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) has honoured 10 engineering practitioners and institutions for their dedication to excellence in the country.
The Regional Transport Research and Education Centre, Kumasi (TRECK) won the Engineering Research and Academic award for the industrial category.
Dr William Ackaah won the Most Published Author in Engineering Award while Prof. Isaac Monney won the Engineering Concepts and Innovation award.
The Engineering Business Management award went to Dr Shadrack K. Amponsah, while the Implementation of Engineering Solutions award went to Dr Shadrack K. Amponsah.
Doreen Ntiamoah-Asare won the Distinguished Woman in Engineering award.
My Redeemer Junior High School won the Innovation, Applied Science and Maths award while Vine Christian High School received an award in the same category for their exceptional performance and dedication to STEM and Robotics.
For the Public award category, Rev. Prof. Charles Anum Adams, Past President of GhIE, won an award for his remarkable contributions to engineering in the public sphere.
The KANTANKA Group also won an award in the same category in recognition of its outstanding contributions to engineering in the public sphere, advancing technologies, and enriching lives through various engineering solutions.
Awards
The awards round up a one-week conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) by the institution.
The Paramount Chief of Assin Kushea, Ehunabobriem Prah Agyensaim VI, chaired the event which saw engineering organisations from Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, South Africa, Kenya and Zambia and the President of the West African Federation of Engineering Organisation (WAFEO) among other dignitaries in attendance.
Engineering practitioners received certificates to elevate them to the status of Fellows of GhIE with Dr Joe Anokye being elevated to Honorary Fellow of GhIE.
The immediate-past President, Kwabena Bempong, also presented awards to individuals and the staff of GhIE who distinguished themselves and served him diligently in his two-term tenure of office.
Commendation
Ehunabobriem Agyensaim VI lauded the GhIE for successfully hosting its one-week conference and AGM and electing new council members.
The paramount chief further commended the leadership of the GhIE for taking the bold decision to construct an Engineering Village at Assin Kushea.
“Over the past two years, I have engaged in thought-provoking discussion and shared ground-breaking ideas with the immediate-past leadership on what we have termed “the Engineering Village” to be built at Assin Kushea.
The idea, he said aligned perfectly with his vision for Assin Kushea and by extension, the entire country where ideas and innovation would thrive using the practical expression of great engineering skills.
For his part, the new President of GhIE, Mr Annang Hesse, expressed gratitude to the paramount chief for donating a 10-acre land at Assin Kushea for the construction of the Engineering Village.
He further assured the chief of his commitment to invest in the land during his tenure to advance the collaborative relations that was started by Mr Bempong and his team of engineers.
