A group of young people in Kpone in the Kpone Katamanso Municipality in the Greater Accra Region have staged a demonstration to protest about their poor roads, water challenges and unresolved land boundary issues in the area.
Clad in red and black outfits, the youth staged a demonstration dubbed, "Enough is Enough Demo" on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 to bring attention to several pressing issues affecting their community.
The protesters highlighted poor roads, water challenges and unresolved land boundary issues as major concerns that required urgent government intervention.
Carrying placards and banners, the youth marched through the streets, starting from Kpone School Junction to the Municipal Assembly offices, where they presented a petition calling on the government to step in and address their grievances.
The demonstrators emphasised that the issues were not only hindering economic activities but also affecting their quality of life.
Background
The protesters bemoaned the state of Kpone township to former Kpone Barrier road as well as the 7-kilometer single carriage road linking Kpone Municipality, near Tema.
They said work on that project commenced in August 2020 when the then Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako Atta, cut the sod for the construction of the Kpone-Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) road and handed over the site to Messrs Joshop Construction, a Ghanaian firm, to provide comfort to numerous industries in Kpone and Tema.
They said the work was expected to be completed within 24 months. However, construction works has stalled with no clear signs of completion.
They also complained of erratic water supply, stressing that residents have had to rely on tanker services at exorbitant prices
“The poor road network, which had further been worsened by the recent downpour is making it difficult for us to transport goods and services, while water scarcity is forcing us to rely on expensive and sometimes unsafe sources,” said one of the protesters.
"We deserve better roads and water, especially when health emergencies happen and we have to access health care at Tema General Hospital, we go through a lot in terms of travelling. From 1992, we have been protesting, and it's time for the government to listen, " a resident said
Petition
The Kpone Katamanso Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Mohammed Ali Amadu, who received the petition on behalf of the Assembly assured the protesters that their petition regarding poor roads, water challenges, and land boundary disputes would be taken seriously.
He said the Assembly was committed to working with the relevant agencies to address the concerns within three months.
He thanked the protesters for their peaceful demonstration, emphasising the importance of collaboration in finding solutions.
"We would like to assure you that this petition will be carried to the responsible agency, and we will do our best to ensure that you see signs of effort by the Assembly in collaboration with the agencies within three months," Mr Amadu said.
