Lante Dzan We Clan, a division of the Asere Kotopon quarters of the Ga State, is the custodian of the calendar for the celebration of the Homowo Festival. The celebration of the festival by the clan, therefore, opens the way for the rest of the Ga State to celebrate the annual event.

The event witnessed the ritual of the sprinkling of kpokpoi, the traditional Homowo meal, by the chiefs, and the pouring of libation alongside other traditional practices in an atmosphere of unity and a reunion of families.

It also involved the firing of muskets by the various Asafo groups dressed in their traditional warrior garments in a Ga setting of music and dance. With various individuals and groups visiting the Ga State to join in the celebration, some political parties also took advantage to share in the celebration.

The National Democratic Congress, for instance, laid tables to serve kpokpoi and drinks for their members and visitors.

The Chief of Lante Dzan We, Nii Lantei Otanka II, who sprinkled the kpoikpoi in the various family houses, said the activity was performed in remembrance of their ancestors who died during a hunger period.

''Homowo is not celebrated for the gods, but to remember our forefathers who died during a hunger period on our journey to this place,'' he said. The kpokpoi is prepared with maize, palm oil, and fish only from the ocean, sprinkled with some vegetables.

Nii Otanka appealed to the youth to desist from any criminal acts during the 2024 general elections. ''Don’t take money from anybody to take up weapons, carry knives, sticks and stones to foment trouble during the elections and after,” he said.

Nii Otanka said Members of Parliament behaved like cousins and nephews, and it would be unwise for those outside Parliament to kill themselves during elections. He advised them to rather pray to the almighty God to choose a good leader for the country during elections.

Nii Otanka thanked the Mayor of Accra, Elizabeth Sackey, and the Member of Parliament for the Odododiodoo Constituency, Nii Lante Vanderpuiye, who donated food items and various sums of money towards the celebrations.
