Let’s empower students with emerging technologies — UNESCO Country Director
It is imperative to empower students with the knowledge and skills to leverage digital tools and emerging technologies to address contemporary challenges, the UNESCO Country Director in Ghana, Edmond Moukala, has said.
He said, for instance, information technology had become the driving force behind contemporary global transformation, with artificial intelligence (AI) gradually revolutionising industries and reshaping the global market.
Integration
“The integration of AI, big data, and automation is not just a trend but the new order of the modern world, influencing everything from health care and education to finance and commerce,” Mr Moukala said at the 10th Congregation and 13th Matriculation of the West End University College (WEUC) in Accra.
In all, 381 fresh students – 246 females and 135 males – were formally admitted into the institution.

A total of 500 students - 210 males and 290 females graduated.
Twenty students obtained First Class honours, with 290 others earning Second Class (Upper Division); 179 obtained Second Class (Lower Division). Ten attained Third Class with one student receiving a Pass.
Mr Moukala said equipping students with expertise in information technology ensured that they could create solutions that improved efficiency, enhanced productivity and fostered innovation across sectors.
Commitment
The WEUC’s commitment to producing IT professionals, he said, positioned its graduates as key players in shaping the future of technology and global progress.
Mr Moukala said all (students, faculty, alumni and stakeholders) should commit to building on the foundation of the institution and ensure that the next 15 years become even more impactful.
“Together, we can harness education as a tool for innovation, social equity and sustainable development,” he said.
The Rector of the WEUC, Prof. Ben Oduro, told the students that success was not defined solely by grades or accolades.
He said it was also measured by “your willingness to learn, your ability to overcome challenges and your commitment to personal growth.
Be curious, explore new ideas and take advantage of the resources and support available to you.
This is a time for exploration and self-discovery, and I encourage you to make the most of it.”
The Chancellor and Founder of the WEUC, Joe Adjekum Mensah, said the students should “Embrace the opportunities ahead, knowing you have the support and guidance of our faculty and staff. Your potential is boundless, and we eagerly anticipate your future achievements”.
A representative of the University of the Cape Coast, Prof. Samuel Awuah Nyamekye, said to the graduates that the completion of their studies was a testament to the resilience, determination and passion that each of “you have exhibited throughout your studies”.
