Nene Drolor Bosso Adamtey I urges graduates to think globally

A member of the Council of State, Nene Drolor Bosso Adamtey, has challenged graduating students  to engage and find solutions to challenges that extend beyond local contexts.

He explained that the challenges that existed in a rapidly changing world required bold solutions, urging them to aim to make a significant impact not just locally, but also internationally.

"You must think beyond Ghana, beyond Africa, and see yourself as a global instrument who stands to bring a change,” he said at a congregation of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) to graduate some students who had successfully completed their programmes of study.

Congregation

The graduation, which was mainly for 936 students who pursued a one year masters and two-year masters programmes, was the fourth in a series of five sessions which form part of the 17th congregation ceremony of the school.

The 936 are, therefore, part of 5,664 students graduating across the four sessions.

Earlier, 825 undergraduate students and 900 diploma students also graduated from the university.

The overall best student went to Nana Kwabena A. Appiah from the Insurance Risk Management class with a Final Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.96.

Nene Adamtey I, who is the first Chancellor of UPSA, recounted a personal childhood experience where his teacher’s negative words extinguished his confidence but he managed to overcome the fear and self doubt.

He, therefore, urged the students not to allow the opinion of others to define their worth.

He further urged the students to be committed to their goals, embrace innovation and creativity, build solutions that priced them and serve the world with integrity.

Developments

The Vice-Chancellor of the UPSA, Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, announced partnerships with 26 tertiary institutions and 10 corporate entities, including significant agreements with the Thomas Berta University in the Czech Republic and Voda University in Norway for faculty and student exchange programmes.

He added that together with management and the student body, a new dressing code had been developed for students to wear official clothes from Monday to Thursday, with a relaxed dress code on Fridays.

He also announced that 13 programmes were steadily progressing through accreditation.

On infrastructure growth, the Vice-Chancellor mentioned new facilities such as the ultra-modern moot court for law students and the Executive Student Hostel, set to open in April 2026, which would provide additional housing for students.

Professor Mawutor encouraged graduates to embrace opportunities with grace and integrity, reminding them that the concept of unemployment was one of the greatest deceptions ever faced by humanity.

As a result, he urged them to seek solutions to challenges and contribute to their personal development and the advancement of Ghana.
