New PMMC MD calls for unity to achieve President Mahama’s vision

The newly appointed acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), Sammy Gyamfi, has urged management and staff to join forces and work tirelessly to further improve the fortunes of the company.

Importantly, he said unity and diligence were required to help establish the Ghana Gold Board, a flagship project of President John Dramani Mahama's administration.

Mr Gyamfi made the call during his introduction to the staff of the company at a staff durbar in Accra yesterday.

He was welcomed by the outgoing MD, Nana Akwasi Awuah.

Ghana Gold Board

Mr Gyamfi, a lawyer, noted that the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board was a priority of the Mahama administration aimed at driving economic revitalisation and ensuring the sustainable management and marketing of Ghana's gold resources.

The Ghana Gold Board, he said, would operate under the guidance of the Minister of Finance and would focus on formalising the small-scale mining sector, providing essential support services to the mining industry and accelerating economic growth while ensuring the equitable distribution of the benefits from Ghana's gold resources.

"PMMC's role as the custodian of Ghana's precious mineral resources is of paramount importance, and I am committed to ensuring that we fulfil this responsibility in a manner that benefits all Ghanaians.

This will require strengthening our partnerships with local communities, mining companies and regulatory bodies, as well as enhancing the overall governance and transparency of our operations.

"My primary focus will be to ensure that PMMC remains a trusted custodian of the country's mineral wealth, while also exploring new avenues for growth and diversification.

We have a responsibility to the people of Ghana to maximise the benefits of our natural resources and to do so in a manner that is transparent, accountable, and aligned with the national interest," Mr Gyamfi stressed.

Commendation

The outgoing MD praised the staff for their hard work and dedication, saying, "I am proud of the progress we have made so far, and I am confident that with the new leadership, PMMC will achieve even greater heights."

Nana Awuah commended the efforts of the PMMC team, highlighting the significant strides made in recent years in areas such as financial management, operational efficiency, and the protection of the company's core mandate.

"The success we have achieved is proof of the hard work and dedication of every one of you. I have no doubt that with Sammy at the helm, this company will continue to thrive and reach new heights," said Mr Awuah.

The staff of PMMC pledged their support for the new MD and expressed their commitment to work diligently towards achieving the President's vision.
