Peace Ambassador criticises EC for Bernard Mornah’s disqualification

African Peace Ambassador Togbi Goba Tenge Seddo has strongly condemned the Electoral Commission (EC) for its disqualification of the Flag bearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah from participating in the upcoming general election.

According to him, the EC was endangering the nation’s peace by disallowing the leader of a traditional party like the PNC from contesting for president when he meets the qualifications as a Ghanaian.

He added that as someone who has witnessed many elections, he could not come to terms with the disqualification and as such described it as “shameful and unfortunate.”

“I’ve witnessed all governments from Nkrumah time as a young pioneer to the present, I have heard a disturbing news that the EC has delisted Bernard Mornah. This is shameful and unfortunate. What sin has Mornah committed that he can not be placed on the EC register to be elected as President,” he said.

Togbi Goba Tenge Seddo was speaking at the celebration of his 80th birthday which was attended by many including Mr Mornah and many prominent traditional leaders from the Volta Region.

Togbi Goba appealed to the election body, political parties and all participants in the upcoming elections to only take actions geared towards peace before, during and after the elections.

“I want to make a strong appeal to the EC and politicians to make sure that their actions and attitudes should bring peace and justice to our reverred Ghana. I repeat it I want to appeal to the EC and all politicians to love peace and truth by putting Mornah’s name on the register.

If the people don’t elect him that’s not the matter for the EC. He is a qualified Ghanaian”, he emphasised.
