Sir David Adjaye on Kwaku Sakyi-Addo’s ‘Sunday Night’ show

He faced a backlash from Americans, especially African-American architects who were unhappy that a Ghanaian-British architect would win a bid to build the museum to honour black American history.

Years later he returns to the land of his heritage and in a repetition of history faces similar if not greater backlash for being awarded a contract to build the
National Cathedral, among other landmark development projects.

Renowned and celebrated architect, Sir David Adjaye, is confirmed to be hosted by Kwaku Sakyi-Addo on his maiden show ‘Sunday Night’, which is set to be premiered on Asaase Radio 99.5, tomorrow, Sunday, June 14, 2020.

Sir David Adjaye, the global icon in the architectural industry, will be the first guest to grace the show as the budding radio station transitions into full operations this Sunday.

Kwaku Sakyi-Addo, host of the talk show, will engage the founder of Adjaye Associates, Sir David Adjaye, on diverse issues from his personality, beliefs, family and achievements. Kwaku will delve deep into his profession and world acclaimed projects

About the show

‘Sunday Night’ will combine personality and current affairs and is expected to debut at 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2020. The show will feature Ghanaian, African and global newsmakers in conversation with Kwaku Sakyi-Addo on a wide range of subjects, from business and the arts through science and politics.

Sir David

Born in Tanzania to Ghanaian parents, his influences range from contemporary art, music and science to African art forms and the civic life of cities.

He is a Ghanaian-British architect who has received international acclaim for his impact on his professional field. In 2000, he founded Adjaye Associates, which today operates globally, with studios in Accra, London, and New York and projects spanning across the globe. He received a Knighthood for services to architecture as part of Queen Elizabeth’s biannual honours programme in 2016.

Sir David Adjaye is a ‘starchitect,’ an architect whose global celebrity and critical acclaim have transformed him into an idol of the architecture world and beyond.
He is currently the architect in charge of designing the National Cathedral project of the Government of Ghana.

Known for his ingenious use of materials and his sculptural ability, Sir David has established himself as an architect with an artist’s sensibility and vision. His projects range from private houses, bespoke furniture collections, product design, exhibitions, and temporary pavilions to major arts centres, civic buildings, and master plans.

Adjaye’s largest project to date, The National Museum of African American History & Culture in Washington, DC, opened on the National Mall in Washington DC in 2016 and was named Cultural Event of the Year by The New York Times. In 2017, Adjaye was recognised as one of the 100 most influential people of the year by TIME Magazine.
