St John ambulance trains community volunteers in James Town

As part of its corporate social responsibilities, St John Ambulance has organised first aid training for community volunteers in James Town and its surrounding areas.

Held at the Sacred Heart Vocational School, the training became necessary as the James Town area hosts major events such as the Homowo and Chale Wote festivals, which often record  a high number of casualties.

Participants had hands-on training on First Aid treatment, incident management, recovery positions, CPR procedures, burns and scalds, handling of bleeding casualties, trauma scene handling, among others.

They included lawyers , teachers, traders, fishermen and students.

The head of the Voluntary Services Department of St John Ambulance, Bridget Ansah Apprey, said the objective was to prepare the volunteers to stand in readiness as first responders in case of any medical emergency.

She expressed the hope that the participants would put the knowledge acquired to good use, thereby assisting humanity during medical emergencies.
