Sub-chief petitions police for protection
The Gyasehene of Gomoa Wassah, Nana Kwesi Essel-Okyeahene, has petitioned the Central Regional Police Command for protection following an attempt on his life by some unknown persons early this year.
In the petition dated January 12, 2026, he requested "immediate and continuous police protection for myself, my family and my properties at Gomoa Wassah and Kasoa".
Incident
It said on Friday, January 2, 2026, a New Year Unity Funfair was organised at the Gomoa Wassah School Park for children, youth and adults from Gomoa Wassah and about six surrounding communities.
The annual new year funfair, organised by "myself together with the Odikro and other chiefs, is purely recreational and aimed at promoting unity and peaceful coexistence".
Activities, the petition said, included horse riding, bouncy castles, games, food and drinks.
"The programme was peaceful until it was violently disrupted," it said.
Attack
The petition said that during the programme, a group of unknown individuals, numbering about nine, forcibly entered the venue and attempted to disrupt the event, causing panic and fear among participants.
At the time, it said five police officers, both male and female, from the Dawurampong Police Division were on duty providing security.
"With the assistance of responsible community members and a number of media people, the police managed to control the situation and prevent it from escalating into a violent or bloody confrontation.
During the struggle, the suspects openly stated that they had been sent to attack and kill one specific person, namely myself, the Gyaasehene, Nana Kwesi Essel-Okyeahene I".
Weapons
It said that some offensive and dangerous weapons, including five brand-new pairs of scissors, were seized by the police during the incident.
"The suspects later fled the scene. Although the police pursued them, no arrests were made," it said.
