Tobinco donates blood tonic to Prisons Service

Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited has donated 300 cartons of X’feron blood tonic, valued at about GH¢125,000, to the Ghana Prisons Service to support the health needs of inmates across the country.

The donation, made in Accra, forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) and reinforces its long-standing partnership with the Prisons Service in promoting healthcare delivery within correctional facilities.

Presenting the items, the Managing Director of Tobinco Pharmaceuticals, Dr Christopher Mensah, said the gesture was aimed at improving the health and well-being of inmates, many of whom face challenges in accessing essential medicines.

He explained that the company recognised the critical role of health care in rehabilitation and reintegration, adding that supporting the service was a meaningful way of contributing to national development.

“This donation is part of our broader commitment to supporting vulnerable groups in society.

Inmates are an important part of our population and their health must not be neglected,” he stated.

Dr Mensah further noted that the donation would help address cases of anaemia and related conditions among inmates, thereby improving their overall quality of life.

Gratitude, support

A Deputy Director-General of Prisons in charge of Operations, Dr Francis Omane-Addo, received the items on behalf of the service.

Briefing the media, an Assistant Director of Prisons (ADP) and Chairman of the Management Committee for the Medicine and Equipment Bank, Dr Augustina Ama Boadu, expressed appreciation to Tobinco Pharmaceuticals for its timely and consistent support.

She described the donation as a significant boost to the service’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery across prison facilities.

She used the occasion to call on other corporate organisations, non-governmental organisations and individuals to support the Prisons Service Medicine and Equipment Bank initiative, which was launched recently.

Dr Boadu explained that the project was designed to mobilise resources such as medicines, medical consumables and equipment to bridge critical healthcare gaps within the prison system.

The initiative seeks to improve the quality of health care for inmates, reduce disease burden and enhance overall prison conditions.
