Dubbed Leadership Farm, the camp is aimed at helping to unearth and sharpen the leadership potential within young people.

Leadership Farm is a self-discovery summer camp for upper primary, junior high, senior high, and university-bound young people between ages 9-18.

A statement from the organisers of the event, Leadafrique International said “students are expected to gain powerful skills in self-awareness, personal growth, confidence, and self-esteem in an environment that fosters learning and success.”

Leadership farm will be held in August at the Diocesan Pastoral and Training Centre, Koforidua, Eastern Region. The theme for 2015 is ‘Unearthing Greatness in Young People’.

According to Michael Ohene-Effah, Co-Founder of Leadafrique International, Ghana’s education system focuses too much on academics, which makes many schools organise vacation classes, even when children are on vacation and supposed to rest.

“Leadership Farm will truly prepare young people for greatness, whilst engaging them meaningfully during the long vacation”.

He added that this year’s edition of Leadership Farm will focus on helping young people carefully craft a plan for their own success. Participants will form groups and engage in community projects after the camp, to teach them how to respond to the neaeds of their various communities.

Over 100 students and young people are expected to attend and will be mentored by seasoned mentors and accomplished professionals.

Teen participants will gain powerful skills in communication, personal organization and growth, confidence, and self-esteem. In addition, participants will engage in outdoor activities such as golf practice, visit to Boti Falls, visit to a model cocoa farm and a nature observatory.

Why leadership farm?

According to Leadafrique, there are very few initiatives to carefully groom and cultivate leaders, making state institutions grapple with non-responsive heads who can’t drive change.

Young people have the capacity to become leaders in their chosen field of endeavor if given the exposure to concepts of leadership and the opportunity to demonstrate their skills through positive social action”.

Also, young people have been at the core of every social movement in history and through Leadership Farm we hope to identify the next generation of social change leaders.
