Ghana Water Company supports COVID-19 fight with G-Water

The Western Regional office of the Ghana Water Company Ltd (GWCL) has donated 100 shrink packs of its branded purified bottled water, G-Water, to support COVID-19 frontline workers in Sekondi-Takoradi.

The Regional Public Relations Officer, Nana Yaw Barima Barnie, who presented the water, said the gesture was done on behalf of the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Ms Cecilia Abena Dapaah, and the Managing Director of the company, Dr Clifford A. Braimah.

He said aside from the Western Region, some other regions and institutions had also received similar donations for the upkeep of teams and centres managing COVID-19 cases.

G-Water is a product by the water company, a new stream of revenue for the company.

Mr Barnie explained that besides the bulk treatment and distribution of potable water for public consumption, the GWCL found it prudent to venture into the mineral water market in the country.

Appreciation

The Western Regional Minister, Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, who received the water on behalf of the health workers, commended the sector ministry and the company for the support and gave an assurance that the water would be distributed among the teams to support their work.

“I am particularly happy that you are not only producing water for our homes through the taps but you are also into bottling of the mineral water, which will not only bring you extra income but also create jobs as well,” he said.

“With your product, I am sure several jobs will be created aside from those directly involved in the production and distribution among others,” Mr Darko-Mensah said.

The minister urged all to continue to respect the COVID-19 protocols, stressing “the only way out is to ensure that we continue with our hand-hygiene, wearing of our nose masks among other protocols; don’t relax, the virus is still with us.”
