30 government workers benefit from KOICA Scholarship
The Korean government has awarded thirty Ghanaian government workers with Masters Scholarship to study in Korea.
The Scholarship programme covers living expenses while in Korea for the minimum period required to complete the program, Air travel fare: Economy class, round-trip airfare, full tuition fees, accommodation, traveler’s health insurance, living allowance, meals, textbooks and materials, study visits, field trips, etc. during the programme.
The beneficiaries under the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Masters scholarship programme will study in various universities in Korea.
They will study various courses ranging from Water Resource Management, Fisheries Science to Atmospheric Science, through to Agricultural Engineering and Production, to Finance and Tax Policy as well as ICT Convergence, all in prominent Korean Universities like Pukyong University, Korea University, SungKyunkwan University, Kyungpook University, among others.
Since 1992, the Korean government through Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has contributed to the Human Resource Development of almost 823 government officials in Ghana, either through short training programs or Masters Scholarship.
At an orientation for the participants, Wednesday for the awardee in Accra , the Country Director of KOICA Ghana Office, Mr Yukyum Kim, said this year’s scholarship participation and selection was extremely intense as KOICA made it open to all interested and eligible government officials, introducing an Online Application System.

This, he noted increased the level of its competitiveness, adding that this led to the selection of the most brilliant candidates.
"This therefore emphasizes the fact that, if you’re here today, as a KOICA 2018 Scholarship beneficiary, you are indeed brilliant and we expect nothing short of brilliance form you during your academic stay in your various universities in Korea".
He said the courses would be of immense contribution to both their career development as well as national development.
" Looking at the bigger picture, you all being government officials, we believe that, you have within you the innermost passion of acquiring knowledge from Korea and returning with that knowledge and experience to help build your nation. It will be sad and pathetic for you to return and not use the acquired knowledge and experience to develop Ghana. As little as possible, when you contribute your little quota to Ghana’s development, your inner being will be satisfied" he said.
He also advised awardees to as much as possible; enjoy both the academic and cultural experience of Korea.

Meanwhile, speaking to the awardees at a reception held for them in Accra, the Korean Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Sungsoo Kim said 197 government officials has so far benefited from KOICA’s Scholarship Master’s Degree.
According to him, the knowledge acquired will help in the socio- economic development of Ghana.
“After your return from Korea, with the acquired knowledge and skills, I believe you will contribute eagerly to ensure an upgrade in your respective sectors and fields, which will translate into Ghana’s National Development".
