Akyem Batabi gets new queenmother

An Accra-based caterer, Adwoa Nketiaa has been installed as the queenmother of Akyem Batabi near Oda in the Eastern Region with the stool name Nana Boa Kyei II.

The new queenmother swore the oath of allegiance to the Batabihene, Barima Oppong Kyekyeku II and the queenmother of Akyem Adasawase, Nana Amponsah Antwiwaa II, who represented the Paramount Queenmother of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, Nana Dokuaa.

The grand ceremony attracted the clergy and many traditional rulers including the chief of Akyem Aduasa, Osabarima Abrokwah Gyanpim IV, the Akwamuhene of Assin Juaso, Nana Kwadwo Gurah I and the royal Ayokuo Abusuapanin of Batabi, Nana Yaw Anarfi.

Speaking at the ceremony, Barima Oppong Kyekyeku advised Nana Boa Kyei to live above reproach and also respect the tenets of chieftaincy to ensure the success of her reign.

He was happy that the protracted chieftaincy dispute in the community that divided the people and retarded the progress of the town had been amicably resolved and urged the inhabitants not to do anything to revive it.

Be submissive

Barima Oppong Kyekyeku enjoined the new queenmother to be submissive, tolerant respectful and accept constructive criticisms with good faith.

Nana Amponsah Antwiwaa for her part, urged Nana Boa Kyei to be just, objective, frank and indiscriminate in the discharge of her duties, especially in her judgements.

She advised her subjects not to antagonise the new queenmother with chieftaincy disputes.

In her maiden speech, the new queenmother, Nana Boa Kyei thanked the kingmakers for the honour done her and promised to live up to expectation.

She, however. urged them to give her the necessary support and guidance to ensure the success of her administration.
