GIPC boss commends Access Bank on Women’s initiative
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Mrs Mawuena Trebarh, has lauded Access Bank for a unique banking initiative targeted at women at all levels of business and social strata.
Access Bank Ghana at the weekend launched a women banking initiative, known as ‘W’, which is designed to inspire, connect and empower women across Ghana, while catering for their financial and lifestyle needs at various stages of their life.
The 'W' Initiative is a key component of Access Bank's financial inclusion drive which makes available to women, specialised bundle of banking and lifestyle products and services to support them in their quest for growing their businesses, improving their family wellbeing and general lifestyle goals.
'W' specifically provides support for women in business, women and family, as well as young women professionals. Women across these segments also get to benefit from a Maternal Heath Support Scheme which offers a range of finance arrangements for couples seeking fertility treatment, expert medical advice or travel overseas for specialist procedures.
Mrs Trebarh said the thorough articulation of the needs of women in the “W” proposition was fascinating but even more exciting was the attention to detail provided in designing the various products and services to support women’s financial and lifestyle needs through the different stages of their lives.
“The Maternal Health Support Scheme, which provides concessionary lending to women for specialist treatment to achieve the dream of motherhood among other medical procedures, is novelty which must be commended,” the GIPC boss said at the launch of the initiative in Accra.
“This initiative, in my very humble opinion, is very critical, owing to the fact that it is aimed at empowering women from all walks of life to have access to resources and coaching to develop the right financial lifestyle and to help them succeed,” she added.
She said whether as young women professionals, women raising families, women in business or with dreams, they all required control of their finances and tailor-made banking solutions specifically designed to meet their lifestyles.
“Allow me to commend the progress for financial inclusion for us as women. I commend the opportunity for women to network, collaborate and support each other to achieve their dreams on one platform, the “W” community,” she said, and pledged the support of the GIPC to the success of the initiative.
The Managing Director of Access Bank Ghana, Mr Dolapo Ogundimu, said, "Given the significant number of women in Ghana's population, over 51 per cent, there could not be sustainable economic growth and development without attending to the needs of women. 'W' is therefore an empowerment movement.”
Unveiling the value propositions of the ‘W’ Initiative, the Group Managing Director of Access Bank Plc, Mr Herbert Wigwe, explained that the initiative demonstrated the bank’s in-depth appreciation of the needs of women, saying: “This empowerment initiative is to ensure the wellbeing of women in all spheres of their lives.”
The launch was attended by customers of the bank, ministers of state, leading women entrepreneurs, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of banks, trade associations, academia, members of the business community and the general public.
