GIS deports 100 illegal immigrants in three months
The Ghana Immigration Service deported 100 illegal migrants from the country for engaging in fraudulent activities between December, 2017 and February this year.
In addition, 100 laptops and accessories were seized from the deportees who were said to have resided in the country without permits.
According to the Head of Public Affairs of the service, Superintendent Michael Amoako-Atta, the deportation was in line with commitment to support other security agencies to fight crime in the country.

He said the government had supported their operations with 50 multi-purpose motorcycles to help combat criminal activities at the country’s borders and other entry points.
“We would put them in operation to help prevent criminal elements from entering Ghana,” he said.
Clean-up exercise
He was speaking at a clean-up exercise held at the Headquarters of the Ghana Immigration Service and its environs in Accra.
About 300 staff of the service including the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mr Kwame Asuah Takyi, were part of the exercise.
He said the exercise was also in response to decisions made by the management to put the area in a clean environment.
Vigilance
Superintendent Amoako-Atta said it was important for the public to be alert and vigilant to help fight crime, adding that the Ghana Immigration Service was ready to support other security agencies to bring down criminal activities.

“Very soon, we are going to see crime eradicated because our borders, both approved and unapproved, would become a very difficult place for these criminals to pass through.
“If as citizens we are very alert and ready to support the police, the battle will be half won against robbery,” he added.
