GNFS requests fire plan for Kotokuraba Market
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has expressed satisfaction with the fire safety installations at the new Kotokuraba market.
It has, however, requested for a fire plan for the market to enable the GNFS to make inputs into it.
The market has a one-million-gallon water reservoir to feed water sprinklers in case of fire, two fire hydrants and a fire post.
It also has two access roads into the markets in case of fire.
GNFS visit
The acting Central Regional Fire Officer, Mr Gilbert Wiafe, expressed satisfaction with the fire installations after leading some personnel of the GNFS to inspect them at the project site.
The personnel were conducted round the facilities by Mr Ofori Annor, Regional Engineer of the Public Works Department, who is a member of the Technical Committee supervising the market project.
Mr Wiafe suggested an additional hydrant to be provided to increase the number to three.
He was optimistic that the new market would be safe from fires.
Mr Annor indicated that all electrical cables used for the project had been certified by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
He explained that there would also be a central control room from where power to various sections of the market could be localised and managed in case of fire.
