GNPC Foundation presents classroom block to Tamale SHS
The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Foundation yesterday handed over a fully furnished six-unit classroom block to the management of Tamale Senior High School (TAMASCO) in the Northern Region.
The facility is constructed by the GNPC Foundation, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) wing of the corporation.

It is to help address the infrastructural challenges of the school as a result of the exponential increase in enrolment, following the introduction of the Free Senior High School (FSHS) programme.
Speaking at the inauguration at the handover ceremony, Dr Dominic Kwesi Eduah, the Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation said the provision of the facility was to help in the delivery of quality education and to ensure that every Ghanaian, no matter their geographical location, had their share of the benefit of the oil money.
He said the foundation, as part of its responsibilities, operated on three pillars including Education and Training, Economic Empowerment and Environment and Social Amenities.
Dr Eduah said since 2018, GNPC had implemented 270 projects across the country and sought to undertake 570 projects this year.
He said the classroom block, among others, formed part of the foundation's contribution towards ensuring that education was accessible to every Ghanaian child.
He urged the school authorities to ensure that the structure was put to good use and encouraged the students to take their studies seriously.

Commendation
The Headmaster of Tamale SHS, Rev. Edward Azeka, said the edifice was timely, considering the increasing number of students enrolled in the school since the introduction of the FSHS initiative by the government.

That, he said, resulted in the double track system due to the lack of infrastructure to accommodate students.
He commended the GNPC for its timely intervention, that would help to reduce congestion in the classrooms.
Rev. Azeka assumed that the school authorities would ensure the proper use and maintenance of the structure.
The Chief Director of the Northern Regional Coordinating Council, Alhaji Alhassan Issahaku, who represented the Regional Minister, Mr Salifu Saeed, said the facility would go a long way to enhance teaching and learning and urged the students to make good use of it by learning hard to enable them to become productive people in future.
The Sagnarigu Municipal Director of Education, Ms Samata Mahama, expressed her gratitude to GNPC for the gesture.
