According to him, the government in this regard had embarked on numerous educational infrastructure developments across the country as a means of providing a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

He said pupils and students would be equipped with the necessary skills in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to make them competitive in the global market.

Mr Quansah stated this when he addressed a durbar of the chiefs and people of Agona Nyakrom to climax their annual Akwambo festival last Saturday.

It was held on the theme: “Educating the youth for nation building.”

The event was interspersed with performances from the two Asafo companies, Dentsifo and Tuafo, and was also attended by the Member of Parliament for the Agona West Constituency, Mr Charles Obeng-Inkoom, and other dignitaries.

Mr Quansah said any country that failed to empower her youth to realise their dreams was bound to fail; stressing that today’s world was driven by technological advancement, with ICT being the main driving force.

He, therefore, called on parents to encourage their children to study hard in order to take advantage of the many opportunities being provided by the government for children to become responsible citizens.

He urged the society to join the crusade against social vices such as teenage pregnancy, drug abuse, cyber fraud and armed robbery among the youth.

The regional minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman, appealed to the chiefs and the youth to nurture the festival, not only speed up development, but to also attract more tourists and investors to the town.

Municipal Chief Executive

The Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Samuel Oppong, said that the assembly had awarded on contract the patching of potholes and opening of roads, construction of a community centre as well as the construction of the road from Mensakrom to Nyakrom.

He disclosed that the assembly had decided to look for investors to quarry the stones in the town, and added that soon a delegation would leave for Turkey to finalise discussions on the project.

Omanhen

In a welcome address read on his behalf, the Omanhen of the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, Okofo Katakyi Nyarko Eku X, commended the government for the various development projects undertaken in the municipality, which had propelled the development of the towns in the area.

He appealed to the government to ensure that the road project from Mensakrom to Nyakrom was completed to alleviate the transportation problems of the people.

He encouraged the youth to be disciplined in all their endeavours in order for them to be successful in their world of work.
