Govt to publish audited report on all state lands in August 2025 - Lands Minister

A full audit of all public lands in Ghana is currently underway and is expected to be made public by the end of August 2025, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has said.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday [July 23, 2025] dubbed the Government Accountability Series, Mr Buah said the nationwide review was ordered by President John Mahama to curb the unauthorised disposal of state lands and rebuild public confidence in land administration.

“No agency or institution’s land can be sold under this administration without the express permission of the President,” Mr Buah stated.

“We are currently reviewing all land transactions to determine whether they were carried out in the interest of the Ghanaian people.”

The review is being undertaken by an inter-ministerial committee involving the Ministry of Works and Housing and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.

According to Mr Buah, the team is examining the legality, transparency and value for money of past land allocations and sales by state agencies.

Mr Buah added that the final audit report, which will be made public in August, will include recommendations for the reversal of any unlawful allocations or possible legal steps to reclaim lands found to have been wrongly sold or transferred.

He also said the broader aim is to improve transparency and public access to land-related services, particularly by bringing services closer to local communities.

This includes reducing long processing times and minimising the need for travel to Accra for documentation.

Mr Buah encouraged members of the public to report any suspected irregularities involving public lands to the appropriate authorities.
