GRA to start collecting GH¢1 fuel from June 16

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has postponed the implementation of the Energy Sector Levies (Amendment)Act, 2025, originally set to begin Monday, June 9 to June 16.

This follows a stakeholder engagement with the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies, which concluded that GRA should allow more time for stakeholders to prepare for implementation.

The levy, which adds an additional GH¢1 per litre on petroleum products, is aimed at addressing debts in Ghana’s energy sector.

The Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament (MP) for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, last week laid before Parliament a bill that amended the Energy Sector Levies Act, 2025 under a certificate of urgency.

Parliament passed the bill same day.

The amended Act has adjusted the Energy Sector Shortfall and Debt Repayment Levy to raise additional revenue to support the payment of energy sector arrears, reduce legacy debt, and ensure stable power supply across the country.

The passage of this bill is expected to generate an additional GH¢5.7 billion in revenue annually to address the energy sector’s financial woes.
