Graphic rolls out themed days for 70th anniversary

The Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) last Friday held a special themed-day to kick-start a monthly event as part of activities marking the company’s 70th anniversary.

The event, which will run from June to October this year, forms part of the GCGL’s internal activities lined up to celebrate its Platinum Jubilee.
Dubbed: “Fantastic Fridays”, the event will take place every last Friday of the month and will see staff switch up their style with theme outfits.

The theme for last Friday’s event was: “Paint The Town Red”, during which staff were made to wear red and white apparels, the GCGL brand colours, to work.

Rationale

The Director in charge of Human Resource and Administration of the GGCL, Ms Peggy Addo, who doubles as the Chairperson of the Anniversary Committee, explained that as a result of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, a number of activities had been revised to reflect the restrictions on mass gatherings.

One such revision was the introduction of ‘Fantastic Fridays’, during which employees could engage in a virtual platform, she said.

“This is why we introduced this fun on the last Friday of every month to celebrate this milestone in our own unique way. In doing this, we are as well observing the restrictions and protocols prescribed by the President,” she added.

Ms Addo said once the restrictions were removed, activities centred around mass gatherings would resume in earnest.

Paint town red

As the theme suggests, last Friday all members of staff turned up in fashionable outfits, showing off the red and white colours in various designs and texture.

Others also chose to have an equal blend of both colours and also complemented their outfits with other accessories, either in red or white.

Members of staff were also expected to take pictures of themselves in their offices which were shared on various company social media platforms.

A team from the anniversary committee went round the units to nominate well-dressed workers in various categories for awards, which were sponsored by Accra Brewery Limited.

The Assistant Editor of the Graphic Business, Mr Charles Benoni Okine, received two awards — the Overall Best Dressed and the Best Dressed Male of the day.

The Assistant Advert Sales Manager, Mrs Frimpomaa Quaye; the Assistant Advert Sales Officer, Mrs Joyce Mahama, and Mr Joel Amedoe of the Design Unit were adjudged the Most Creative Female, the Best Dressed Female and the Most Creative Male, respectively.

The Director in charge of News, Mrs Mavis Kitcher, was named the Best Dressed Executive, while the Marketing Department came out as the Best Dressed Department. The next edition will be in July.

Other Programmes

A special programme, the hosting of Guest Editors, has also been rolled out, with the Chief Executive Officer of Stanbic Bank, Mr Alhassan Andani, leading the pack as the Guest Editor of the company’s flagship, the Daily Graphic, on Thursday, May 28, 2020.

Other high-profile personalities who will come on board include a former Editor of the Daily Graphic, Ms Elizabeth Ohene; the Quiz Mistress of the National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ), Dr Elsie Effah Kaufmann, and the Auditor-General, Mr Daniel Yaw Domelevo.
