GRIDCo restores electricity supply after nationwide system disturbance
The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has announced the full restoration of electricity supply following a system disturbance that occurred on the evening of Thursday, April 3, 2025.
The outage affected several parts of the country, including sections of Accra, Kumasi, Sunyani, Techiman, Bui, Tumu, Sawla, and other areas in northern Ghana.
According to a statement issued by GRIDCo, the incident began at 8:09pm. when a fault caused the Tafo–Nkawkaw transmission line to trip. While engineers were working to restore the line, neighbouring lines also tripped, resulting in the shutdown of some power plants.
This loss of generation capacity led to a disruption in electricity supply to parts of Accra and Kumasi, as well as regions beyond Kumasi in the northern part of the country.
"GRIDCo's System Control Centre (SCC) immediately took steps to stabilise the power system and commenced restoration of supply to affected areas. By 22:57 hrs, power supply had been fully restored," the statement said.
GRIDCo extended its appreciation to the public for their patience and assured customers of its commitment to ensuring a reliable and stable electricity supply.
