Iran calls for collaboration to combat terrorism
The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Ghana, Mohammad Soleymani, has called for effective collaboration with the international community to combat global terrorism.
According to him, the main challenge confronting the world now was how to deal with growing terrorism and extremism.
Mr Soleymani affirmed the resolve of Iran to promote peace, tolerance and human rights through international diplomacy and campaigns.
Anniversary
He made the call in Accra last Wednesday during the 37th anniversary celebration of the National Day of the Republic of Iran.
A revolution in 1979, under the leadership of His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, led to the country’s political, social, scientific and economic development.
As an important stakeholder in the Middle East, Mr Soleymani said Iran’s foreign policy was to strengthen its bilateral and multilateral relations globally.
And being the chair of the Non-Aligned Movement, he said, “Iran is obliged to keep peaceful relations with its neighbours and other countries, in spite of continued crises spearheaded by people sponsoring terrorist groups and promoting sectoral policies.”
Investment
Mr Soleymani also said Iran would invest in Ghana’s oil and gas sectors as well as agriculture to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
“So far there are various fields of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries,” he stated, and added that, “we are also engaged in promoting the spirit of Non-Aligned Movement, South-South Cooperation, fighting terrorism and combating extremism.”
Congratulations
The Minister of State in charge of Development Authority, Dr Mustapha Ahmed, congratulated the people of Iran on their 37th anniversary celebrations, and announced that, “for the purpose of deepening the existing collaboration and bilateral cooperation between the two countries, President John Mahama will pay a historic, visit to Tehran on Sunday, February 14.
“This historic visit, being the first by a sitting Ghanaian President, will ultimately afford both countries the opportunity to renew the state of Ghana-Iran Partnership Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC) and explore new opportunities to widen cooperation between the two countries,” he further explained.
