The assembly’s contribution to the projects was from its share of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and the District Development Fund (DDF).

The projects include three six-unit classroom blocks with ancillary facilities at Half-Assini, Anwiafutu and Domeabra, CHPS compounds at Mpataba and Nuba, renovation of an administration block and assembly hall complex and a bungalow for the district chief executive (DCE), all in Half-Assini.

The rest are the construction of a new district magistrate’s court, a VIP ward at the Government hospital at Half-Assini, and streetlighting at Half-Assini and some of its major towns.

The DCE, Mr George William Somiah, said this in his maiden address the Jomoro District Assembly at Half Assini in the Western Region at the weekend.

According to the DCE, apart from the Half-Assini Methodist and Anwiafutu classroom blocks which are 65 per cent complete, the rest have been fully completed and being used by the beneficiary communities and agencies.

He said the assembly’s development partners, which included the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Tullow, Kosmos Energy and ENI Foundation, have made similar contributions in the area.

Mr Somiah indicated that GNPC had constructed a one six-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities for the Methodist Junior High School and constructed a perimeter wall and an accident and emergency ward for the Government Hospital in Half-Assini.

He said Kosmos Energy had provided Beyin Paramountcy and its surrounding towns with potable water, constructed a teachers’ resource centre at Beyin an ICT Centre for New Nzulezo Cluster of Schools and a modern fish smoking facility at Ekpu near Half-Assini.

Tullow ,for its part, was constructing a 1,50- seater capacity assembly hall for the Half-Assini Senior High School and had provided 13 coastal communities in the area with good drinking water, he said.

Mr Somiah indicated that the Eni Foundation had donated an ambulance and renovated the male, female and maternity wards, the consulting rooms, as well as a dispensary, the pharmacy and stores. It had also constructed an ultra-modern theatre for the Half-Assini Government Hospital.

He said it had also donated a boat to be used as ambulance to the District Health Directorate and revamped the Ekebaku Clinic, built CHPS compounds at Jaway Wharf, Tweakor Number Two, Fawoman and New Ankasa.

The Presiding Member of the assembly, Mr Prince Charles Ndarko, in his welcome address, urged the members to consider the plight of their people and help to improve their living conditions to make the "Better Ghana Agenda" a reality.

He urged traditional authorities and all stakeholders of the district to volunteer information on any unusual movements or activities of people in the area to the security agencies, especially during this election year, for prompt action.

The presiding member assured the security agencies in the area of the assembly's readiness to support them and urged them to ensure that the peace being enjoyed was maintained.
