Justice Foundation offers free legal aid to La

The Justice Foundation (JF), an organisation which aims at increasing access to justice in Ghana, has provided legal advice and aid to indigens of La, a suburb of Accra.

Most of the legal aid bordered on land dispute and the process by which the estates of deceased relatives could be accessed.

The services were provided free of charge.

Justice denied

Addressing the media after the programme, the Executive Director of the JF, Mr Kwaku Agyeman-Budu, said many poor Ghanaians had been denied justice because they could not afford legal services.

He added that in spite of constitutional provisions which guaranteed human rights, rights and civil liberties were being violated on a daily basis.

The JF, according to him, was determined to promote respect for and enforcement of the fundamental human rights of all Ghanaians and ensure, in collaboration with relevant governmental and non-governmental agencies, an effective and efficient justice delivery system in Ghana.

The provision of free legal services, he said, was one of the measures adopted by the foundation to ensure that the poor got justice.

Mr Agyeman-Budu said the JF would also embark on educational campaigns, organise symposia and other fora to help create awareness in respect of pertinent human rights issues in the country.

“We will also co-ordinate and continuously monitor the efforts of a network of young and dedicated lawyers and law students in the provision of legal aid services,” he said.

Justice Foundation

Incorporated in August 2013 as a company limited by guarantee, the JF is an apolitical not-for-profit organisation with the sole aim of increasing access to justice in Ghana.

It was founded on the conviction that injustice, howsoever manifested, was unacceptable and should be condemned and totally eradicated through a gradual systematic approach.
