Besides, the community had made available a 300-acre land, and a six-acre fenced property handed over by Newmont Ghana Limited to the community for the project.

On the former Newmont property are structures used as their offices, a fully-furnished cafeteria, water system, and open spaces capable of providing additional staff quarters.

The Omanhene of the Kenyasi No.2 Traditional Area, Odeneho Dadiako Nsiah Ababio, told the Daily Graphic at his Kwashieman residence in Accra last Wednesday that, "We mean everything we are saying because we value higher education. "

"So we need an aggressive timeline from the University for the construction of the campus," he added.

Funding

According to him, funds for the project would come from donations from philanthropists, the community's share of the Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF), the Asutifi District Assembly, and the Kenyasi Traditional Council.

Kenyasi No 2, the capital of the Asutifi District, is one of the prominent areas of the Ahafo section of the region.

It hosts the Newmont Ahafo Mines and is also rich in agriculture resources.

Request

Already, a request made by the traditional council to the management of the university for the establishment of the campus was receiving attention”, the Omanhene said.

He, however, called for action to be expedited to make the dream a reality.

The chief further observed that the provision of a technology-oriented tertiary institution that would provide degree programmes in natural resources, engineering, computer science and business, was appropriate for the area, known for its mining and agriculture activities.
