Kubekro Traditional Council calls for peace

The Kubekro Traditional Council in Tema has appealed to the government to intervene in a boundary dispute between the Tema and Kpone Traditional areas which is threatening the peace in both communities.

The council requested the government to task the Survey Department of the Lands Commission to demarcate the boundary accordingly to ensure peace and development in the area.

It said it had, since January this year, sent a petition to the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kpone Katamanso, Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, but was yet to receive a response.

That, it said, was inappropriate, since the MP had to intervene for peace to prevail in the two communities.

Allegation

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Nii Amarh Ashiboye, the Secretary to the Kubekro Stool, accused the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Setho Classic Engineering, Mr Seth Salah, who he claimed was not an indigene of the area, of threatening the peace in Kubekro and Appollonia, a suburban community in the Kpone Traditional Area.

“We don’t want to take the law into our own hands, hence the need for the government to intervene in the dispute,” he said.

Lands Commission

Mr Salah had claimed ownership of large portions of land at Kubekro and Appollonia in the Kpone-Katamanso District.

However, a detailed survey by the Lands Commission indicated that the claims by the estate developer were unfounded.

It was also established by the commission that the only companies that owned land in the area were Naak Estates Limited and the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL).

Traditional leaders in the two areas have also denied ever selling land to Mr Salah, who is also said to be re-selling tracts of lands in the area.

Nii Ashiboye said, Mr Salah had claimed that he had bought the land from the late Chief of Appollonia, Nii Tei Adumuah II, and had dispatched land guards to the area who were said to be terrorising legitimate claimants to the land.

The activities of the land guards had stalled work on buildings in the area owned by members of the Senior Staff Association (SSA) of the GCGL who had acquired 150 acres  of land for development.

Land guards

The Chief of Kubekro, Nii Mensah Bossah II, expressed worry over the activities of land guards in the area which he said were not only a threat to peace but also prevented the people from farming.

According to him, several efforts, including petitions to the police, to stop the activities of the land guards had proved futile.
