Kumasi Children’s Hospital to be expanded

The Maternal and Child Health Hospital, popularly referred to as Children’s Hospital in Kumasi, has begun discussions with key interested groups in the metropolis on a plan to expand facilities, including equipment and logistics, with the aim of enabling it  to meet the standards required of a regional hospital.

The hospital authorities say they are hopeful that stakeholders, including the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, the Ghana Health Service and allied agencies, as well as the traditional authority, would help it to raise appreciable funds to enable it to put an adjoining vacant land to use in its expansion programme.

The Medical Superintendent of the Maternal and Child Health Hospital, Dr Kwabena Opoku-Adusei, said it was time the hospital was transformed into a proper regional hospital.

Dr Opoku-Adusei made the statement at a ceremony in Kumasi at which Toyota Ghana Company Limited donated 50 pieces of high quality mattresses to the hospital.

The donation by Toyota was the second in two years after the supply of some medical equipment to the hospital last year.

The Ashanti Regional Branch Manager of Toyota Ghana, Mr Peter Asante, who read a speech on behalf of the Managing Director of the company, said Toyota Ghana believed that a healthy environment contributed to a healthy life.

“The wellbeing of a mother and child is central if they are to enjoy good health in the long term, and by reducing maternal and infant mortality, the health condition of the whole population could be improved,” he said.
