The people of Kwahu desire a bridge like the Adomi Bridge over the Afram River

Kwahu chiefs want bridge on River Afram

The Chief of Obomeng-Kwahu in the Kwahu South District, Nana Effah Pinamang III, has made a passionate appeal to the government to assist the Kwahu Traditional Council to construct a bridge over the Afram River.

According to the chief, since the Afram Plains had a great potential to become the food basket of the country, a bridge over River Afram was a matter of urgency to connect the rest of the country through Kwahu to the plains.

“If there is the Adomi Bridge over the Volta River which we appreciate and another bridge at Sogakope which links up the Volta Region, why can’t we have a bridge on the River Afram to cut down on the man-hours and inconveniences of using the ferry?” he asked.

Expressing optimism that the construction of a bridge to link up Kwahu to the Afram Plains was possible, Nana Pinamang said if the government had difficulty in procuring the needed funds for the bridge, they could use the vast land as collateral.

“We also need a bridge at Kwahu to link us to the rest of the country. The government should entrust it into our hands so that we can construct our own bridge and cater for its maintenance,” he said.

Plant pool

Nana Pinamang also called for a plant pool and investments to enhance agriculture in the Afram Plains and added that such a plant pool should be entrusted into the hands of the Kwahu Traditional Council to manage to ensure prompt repayment by individuals who benefited from the scheme.
