La Nkwantanang-Madina Assembly hands over KG block to GES
The La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly has handed over a four-classroom kindergarten block with ancillary facilities to the Ghana Education Service (GES) at Madina with a call on the school community and management committee to ensure the facility is maintained to serve its intended purpose.
The kindergarten block and its facilities for the Madina Municipal Assembly Number ‘1’ cluster of schools have been designed to cater for the diverse needs of children with modern equipment that would facilitate interactive and engaging learning experiences for kindergarten pupils.

At a short inauguration ceremony on the school premises last Wednesday, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Jennifer Dede Adjabeng, who handed over the facility to the GES, also called on the municipal education directorate, as well as the school community, to put necessary measures in place to ensure the facility was well maintained.
She said, with the coming into effect of the Education Act, 2008 (Act 778), the kindergarten section became an integral part of the country’s basic education system but there had unfortunately been a serious infrastructure gap over the years, adding “the edifice we have inaugurated is, therefore, part of efforts to bridge the gap”.
Holistic development
The MCE said it had been recognised that education was not only about academic achievement but also about the holistic emotional and character development of the individual.
She said it was envisaged that the facility would provide a safe haven where the children could explore, learn, play and grow and it was going to be an environment where their curiosity and creativity would be nurtured and where their love for learning would blossom.
Mrs Adjabeng said the project marked a significant milestone in the journey towards providing quality education and a brighter future for the children and gave the assurance that the assembly on its part would continue to ensure that the needed infrastructure and logistics were provided to aid in teaching and learning, as well as monitoring and supervision to ensure the municipality became a beacon of educational excellence in the country.
The Municipal Education Director, Kean Adjei Appiah, who received the facility on behalf of the education directorate, lauded the assembly for the number of educational facilities that had been provided across the entire municipality, which were promoting effective teaching and learning.

He said research had shown that the early years of a child’s life were crucial for their cognitive, social, emotional and physical development and by investing in high-quality early childhood education, “we are not just preparing children for school, we are laying the foundation and groundwork for their lifelong learning journey”.
Safety of learners
Mr Appiah told the teachers and the caregivers that with the opening of the new KG block, they must envision a place where every child felt safe, valued and inspired to learn.
He urged the teachers and the caregivers in the municipality, especially those in the beneficiary school, not to only see the facility as mere blocks and mortar, but rather as a space where creativity flourished, curiosity was nurtured and dreams took flight in the life of the learners in the kindergarten.
The Chief of Teiman, Nii Manle Dzeha, in an interview with the Daily Graphic at the inauguration advised chiefs in the municipality to reserve some of their lands for educational purposes.

He said chiefs who sold parcels of lands within their jurisdictions without reserving some for educational development did that at the expense of development, which had repercussions for the area, not only now but in the future.
